Weather conditions were remarkably good for the 2011 race despite the torrential rain before and after event!
In addition, the tides were favourable making the distance slightly shorter than last year for the 36 Tynedale Harriers who made up the 800 strong field.
Richard Parker had a superb run to finish in seventh place overall and 3rd Vet 40. Richard's time was an impressive 1:24:58, about 3 minutes ahead of Balazs who completed the distance in 1:27:51 to take 15th place.
Next for the club was Ian Brown in 1:32:23 closely followed by Ivan Newton and Peter Hearn.
Joanne Lee was first Tynedale lady coming 77th overall in 1:37:57. Steph Scott had a strong run to finish ahead of Rachel chinnery clocking 1:44:16 and 1:45:22 respectively.
In the over 70's category, Eileen Armstrong clocked 2:50:40 just ahead of David Wright who completed the distance in 2:52:53.
A thoroughly enjoyable day with Tynedale being well represented across the field in all age categories!
Results have been updated following the Newburn River Race.
Congratulations to Richard Parker who has completed 5 events with maximum points total of 125.
The final event is the Coastal Run which will decide the outcome of the Ladies competition!
Well done also to Ivan Newton who has so far completed seven events in the competition and is on track to complete all 8 by doing the Coastal Run on Sunday 17th July.
Despite the weather, six Tynedale Harriers made the 30 mile journey south to take part this year and gain valuable points in the Grand Prix competition.
Hilary Dickinson was the only female Harrier to compete and so gained maximum points. Hilary's time for the distance was 53.52 giving her second place in her age category and 188th overall (from 322 finishers).
For the men, Richard Parker was first home for Tynedale in 8th place. This was an excellent run considering the conditions as Richard clocked 37.03. Ronnie Coupland was just outside 40 minutes which was good enough to give Ronnie 19th position.Ivan Newton and Ian Brown ran the first half together passing the 5Km point in exactly 20 minutes. While both faded over the second lap, Ivan had the edge finishing in 40.48 and 30 seconds ahead of Ian. Paul Edwin finished strongly behind the pair in 45.30 giving him 70th place overall.
The event was well organised and everyone enjoyed the experience despite the high winds.
Thirteen Tynedale Harriers travelled to Blyth to take part in the excellent Blyth 10Km. An 'out and back' route along the sea front makes for a fast, flat course provided the weather is calm!
Some excellent times were recorded on Sunday with Joanne Lee achieving a personal best time of 38.52 just 14 seconds behind Sonia Morley. Balazs Somogyi was disappointed with his run as he experienced cramps at 5 miles. He still managed to finish first for the club in 37.30 just in front of Ian Marsden who had a strong run finishing 5 places behind Balazs in 37.41.
Fruitbowl 7 - November 7th 2010
Twenty seven Tynedale Harriers turned out to try the new trail route at Gibside this year.
The event organisers, Blackhill Bounders, were requested to find an alternative course around the Gibside grounds which avoided using the grass avenue and risking damage by the 500 runners who typically take part.
Conditions were close to perfect this year, cool and bright and unlike last year, not a raincloud in sight.
The new course turned out to be somewhat shorter than the old '7 mile' route coming in at about 5.75 miles. Nonetheless it is a tough event with plenty of challenging hills. The paths around the estate also continue to be improved with the river path now being a proper 'made up' path rather than grass.
Some excellent performaces were recorded on the day with Richard Parker taking the honours for the men but closely followed by Sonia Morley and Kirstie Anderson for the women.
As usual, the finishing order of Club members determines the number of points and can be viewed on the attached files.
